Decaffeinate Your Life!!

Check out this video on the dangers of caffeine.  The picture quality is bad, but the information is good.

What happened with my no meat experiment?

So a while back I removed meat from my diet for about 10 or 11 days to see if this would increase my mental and physical energy.  The first few days being off of meat were great - I felt energetic and I thought it was going very well.  Towards the end of my experiment, however, I crashed and burned.

I believe there were a few main factors that contributed to this result.  First, I went to the gym on two occasions to lift weights and jog, and I played in a soccer game as well, so I was incredibly sore and my body broke down.  I had not been to the gym in a couple months, so this was a predictable outcome.

Second, I did not utilize an appropriate protein replacement for my diet.  By not eating meat, I needed to substitute meat protein with some other form of protein.  I had used tofu in many of my meals, and I made protein shakes with this hemp protein powder from Trader Joe's.  These replacements definitely did not do the job, so next time I remove meat from my diet I am going to need a much better protein substitute.

Third, during this 10 or 11 day experiment I had been drinking way too much caffeinated coffee.  Over the last few years, I have noticed that my mental clarity and physical energy tend to decrease as my coffee and caffeine consumption increase, so I usually remove coffee and start to feel better again - only to be sucked back into the routine of drinking that delicious drink once more.  This pattern is getting irritating, so I have decided to remove coffee and caffeine from my diet all together.  It's been about a week being off of coffee and most caffeine, and I am feeling great!

As of right now, I am back to eating meat and feeling good.  I have decided to limit my meat consumption to about once a day, and I am trying to eat meats that are organic and free-range.  I want to stay away from meats that are filled with hormones, antibiotics, and other unhealthy chemicals.  Going off of coffee and caffeine has been a really good choice for me as well, my mental clarity and physical energy are right where they need to be.  So if you drink a lot of caffeine and you are feeling tired all the time - remove caffeine from your diet for at least a week and see how you feel!
